Find Sections (a.k.a. Section Filters) provides filter criteria to narrow down the selection of LTPP test sections. Users can apply filters from multiple classifications at their discretion. Selected Section Count is updated in real-time as the user applies filters.
MERRA Climate Data for MEPDG Inputs enables users to download MERRA climate data in a format that is being used as an input for the AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design Software. This feature allows users to download the Hourly Climatic Database (.HCD) file based upon MERRA data for the selected section. As of July 2017 the MERRA data set has been changed from MERRA-1 to MERRA-2. The cell_ids and data have a high probability of being different for the same set of coordinates.
The Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) Specific Pavement Study (SPS) projects are comprised of multiple – 2 to more than 20 – test sections co-located in the same direction. Although the test sections for a given project may be spread over several miles, it is generally assumed that all test sections belong to the same climatic region (i.e., MERRA-2 cell). While this is overwhelmingly the case, there is one project – SPS-10 in Nevada – where some test sections fall under one climatic region (WET, FREEZE) while the remaining ones under another climatic region (DRY, FREEZE). This does not imply dramatic differences in the moisture or temperature regimes. Indeed, the opposite is true and, consequently, to avoid confusion, the decision was made to assign all SPS project test sections to a single MERRA-2 cell for purposes of defining the climatic regime.

This feature allows the user to download the historical climate file obtained from MERRA Data for the selected section and store this data in electronic file having a format suitable for input into MEPDG model.
Hourly Climatic Database Files (*.hcd) contain information for a specific weather station. The file format is as follows:
YYYYMMDDHH
Temperature
Wind Speed
% Sun Shine
Precipitation
Relative Humidity.
The station.dat file contains all of the hourly climatic database weather stations. Each weather station included in the station file has the following information:
Five-digit station code
SHRP ID| State abbreviation
MERRA ID
Latitude
Longitude
Elevation
Beginning date of the climate data in YYYYMMDD format
Code "C" for complete climate data
End date of the climate data in YYYYMMDD format
The downloaded HCD and station data files need to be copied into the designated climate data folder on your computer, so that the added climate stations are recognized and listed within the AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design software. For more detailed information on how to use additional climate data files, please refer to the AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design Help System PDF file provided by AASHTO.
