Field Operations
One of the LTPP program’s core functions is to collect and manage pavement performance data; managing these activities has been charged to the LTPP Data Collection Services Contractor (DCSC), formerly the Data Collection Contractor (DCC), the Regional Support Contractor (RSC) and the Regional Coordination Office Contractor (RCOC).
The DCSC is responsible for the testing and collection of pavement performance data on LTPP test sections throughout the United States and Canada, the coordination of data collection efforts of other contractors and highway agencies, quality control of data collection procedures and data, the handling and entry of data into the Pavement Performance Database (PPDB) and the Ancillary Information Management System (AIMS), and the subsequent database management. This requires close coordination with all the States and Provinces, as well as the FHWA Division Offices. The DCSC related pavement performance data includes traffic volumes and loads, material properties, pavement layer types and thicknesses, maintenance and rehabilitation information, and pavement conditions – falling weight deflections, surface distresses, longitudinal & transverse profiles, and surface macrotexture. Additionally, the DCSC is responsible for the recruitment, construction, supervision, and subsequent performance monitoring of new LTPP experiments.
