FHWA InfoTechnology provides knowledge that relates innovations in highway infrastructure assessment technology to practicing transportation engineers. It is a problem-focused tool that assists users in finding and utilizing recommended technology for non-destructive evaluation of bridge, pavements, and tunnel components.

FHWA InfoTechnology (previously Non-destructive Evaluation Web Manual) is re-envisioned to cater to the original objectives of providing a link between the latest research and the practicing bridge engineers as well as to widen the scope of information to encompass the latest techniques in the field of transportation. The NDE Web Manual provided focused guidance for many different engineering problems related to bridges. FHWA InfoTechnology is a problem-focused tool that can help users find a suitable technology for bridges as well as tunnels and pavements, relevant to specific materials, applications, and infrastructure elements. This platform is redesigned to a flexible and responsive design that addresses the next generation engineering needs by providing the latest information on the go.

The FHWA InfoTechnology is a research product of the FHWA’s NDE Program. We acknowledge the research conducted under the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) initiative into the use of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) on infrastructure systems. SHRP2 was a national partnership of key transportation organizations: the Federal Highway Administration, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and the Transportation Research Board.
